Member Update - July 2020


BOMA Fort Lauderdale / Palm Beaches President's Message

Well, I think we all can say this is a year we will remember, but how will we remember it? A year of reflection, transition, growth, change in how we do business or manage our business or associations.

Like our members, BOMA is also reacting and transitioning. Although we are adjusting, we are not changing our core values of helping and supporting our Commercial Real Estate industry.

As we had to reschedule, cancel, and adjust to online-platform meetings, we appreciate your understanding. It was very disheartening when we had to cancel BOMA Day. After carefully weighing all options, and having an innovative and creative overview, we were still not comfortable for multiple reasons to hold and continue with this year's event.

Unfortunately, we have come to the same conclusion about our annual TOBY competition and gala. The event is a massive undertaking in any given year. We have considered numerous variations for both the competition and a celebration. With the COVID-19 statistics growing in the wrong direction, every aspect of this event would be in question. While we want to honor and celebrate the excellence that has genuinely been demonstrated this year – above all others, exposure (both on judging and at a quasi-event or sub-events) would not be prudent in this environment.

I know our very valued Property Managers and Associate Members will be disappointed. Nevertheless, we feel it is in the best interest of our Association and individual members to make this hard decision.

We have some educational, online programming and educational add on programming coming up. You can look forward to:

  • Elevate Your Building with the 360 Designation presented by BOMA International's Joel Corley on July 29th
  • Summer Social Trivia Happy Hour on August 5th
  • A BOMA Town Hall event, related to new janitorial regulatory standards and tenant expectations, on August 19th 

We are eager to stay engaged with our Commercial Real Estate Property Management community and are always open to our valued members' suggestions. We are all out working in this ever-changing environment and appreciate all the insight from our members. 

Lastly, please keep all our BOMA family in our thoughts as we keep doing our new normal. Our buildings are still in need of all our vendor services. While things may have slowed down or been postponed, now is the time to get projects back on track. Our vendors have adjusted well with the appropriate social distancing and mask-wearing during servicing.

We look forward to getting our entire BOMA family back to work as we follow our safety guidelines.
