SPECIAL INVITATION FROM THE PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL COMMITTEE

A CALL FOR UNITY & REMEMBERANCE

The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) is hosting a memorial to remember and honor the lives lost to COVID-19 in cities and towns across the country on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. EST.

They are asking you to join Washington, D.C. by illuminating buildings and ringing church bells at 5:30 p.m. EST in a national moment of unity and remembrance. The ceremony will feature the lighting of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool; it will be the first-ever lighting around the Reflecting Pool to memorialize American lives lost. The lighting ceremony will continue with buildings taking part at 5:30 PM in each time zone, moving westward with your participation.

There are many ways to participate - you can get involved by:

  • Lighting up city buildings at 5:30 p.m. EST. We recommend illuminating buildings in a light amber color. Your city can also illuminate buildings later at 5:30 p.m. local time.

  • Ringing town and church bells

  • Lighting a candle in your window to join in the countrywide moment of remembrance.

Participating building owners and managers are also asked, but not required, to complete this form to be sent to the Presidential Inaugural Committee. Additionally, the committee has requested that owners and managers participating in the event record or photograph their building illuminations to share on social media platforms. Should you have any questions, contact the Presidential Inaugural Committee directly at [email protected]

BOMA International also would like to collect videos or photographs.  Please send them, along with the building's name, owner, management company, and any photographer credit, to [email protected]
