President Trump Signs Omnibus Spending Bill

President Trump Signs Omnibus Spending Bill

On Friday, President Trump signed a $1.3 trillion federal spending package. The omnibus spending bill averted a government shutdown and will fund the federal government through September 30. The bill maintains the current funding level for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including the ENERGY STAR® program. Funding for ENERGY STAR became uncertain last year when President Trump called for its elimination, despite the widespread bipartisan support it receives. BOMA International and other industry groups strongly advocated for the preservation of the program leading up to the passage of the spending bill.

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) also was reauthorized in the spending bill, though only through July 31 of this year. This short-term extension will allow BOMA International’s advocacy staff to work with lawmakers on needed reforms to enhance the program's viability, as well as advocate for a longer-term extension.
