Crown Center Receives Three Green Globe Certification

Midgard Management is pleased to announce that 1451 Crown Center has been awarded Three Green Globes certification by the Green Globes for Continual Improvement of Existing Buildings (CIEB).

The building was previously certified LEED Silver for Existing Buildings; thus this is further confirmation that the staff at Midgard is always looking to improve energy efficiency at Crown Center and lessen their carbon footprint. The Green Globe designation is equivalent to a LEED Gold Certification.

1451 Crown Center is a 62,446 square foot three-story building which is one of six buildings located on a 23-acre campus in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Of the six buildings situated within Crown Center, four have either a Green Globes or LEED certifications making Midgard one of the very few privately-held developments with multiple Certified buildings.

With the Managing Partner of Midgard being a Florida native and a staff of individuals that trace their roots to Florida over 30 years, the Midgard team has embraced the opportunity to make Crown Center an example of how Commercial Office Buildings can become energy efficient, engage and involve their tenants, and restore and preserve the fragile Florida environment.

Features of this 1451 Crown Center include an electric car charging station – free for tenant use.  The landscaping was converted to native vegetation requiring no irrigation, whatsoever.  The roof was replaced with an Energy Star-rated white membrane, and the interior common area corridors were renovated using hard surfaces to accommodate our Green Cleaning Program better.

The Energy Management Systems score for this 30+ year-old building was 94% with the Energy Star score being 99%.  Midgard wishes to congratulate their team– which is made up of staff and service providers – on this achievement as they have demonstrated both leadership and commitment to Crown Center, their tenants, and to the environment.

More about Green Globes

Green Globes is an online green building rating and certification tool that is used primarily in Canada and the USA. The genesis of Green Globes, similar to LEED and many other systems around the world was BREEAM, developed in the UK in the 1980's. From new construction, to fit-ups, retrofits and management and operations of existing buildings - the Green Globes suite of tools can help ensure that environmental goals are achieved continuously throughout a building’s life. The Green Globes system uses an online questionnaire-based approach. Certification is achieved by undergoing third-party verification by trained regional verifiers. The Three Green Globes certification is comparable to LEED Gold.
